The line
| Stage | Star | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Scout Rider | 2★ | Fast flanker and archer assassin. Rated one of the best beginner units. |
| Cavalryman | 3★ | A beginner-level cavalry unit. B tier — a step on the way up. |
| Lancer | 4★ | S tier. Fastest unit in the game, highest rush damage. |
This is the only line that starts at 2 stars, which matters for early accounts: there is no 1-star cavalry, so you cannot fit a cheap horse into a small star budget. Cavalry is a commitment.
What cavalry is for
Two jobs, and neither is holding a line.
Killing archers. Archers are the highest damage in the game and helpless once a horse reaches them. That single matchup is why cavalry exists, and it is why every serious lineup includes spears — not to kill things, but to stand between the archers and the horses.
Flanking. Creators rate the Scout Rider among the best flankers in the game. When the enemy is committed to your main push, a fast unit can reach their back line and delete the units doing the damage. A cavalry charge into a distracted opponent is worth far more than the same unit in a straight fight.
Why the Lancer is S tier
The Lancer is the fastest unit in the game with the highest rush damage, and creators describe its job precisely: shock.
It breaks a line in one charge. It does not win prolonged fights — one tier list notes that outside of shock value “it doesn’t do well,” and that it can beat lower-tier units and archers but nothing that can hold a line.
That is not a weakness to work around; it is the unit’s design. A Lancer is a three-second window. Used at the right moment — the enemy committed forward, their archers exposed, their spears out of position — it ends the fight. Used as a frontline, it dies.
The pairing creators recommend is Lancer to break the line, Immortals to follow up — the horse creates the gap, the durable unit walks through it.
The spears problem
Every spear unit in the game hard-counters cavalry, and this is the single most expensive mistake players make.
Creators phrase it without hedging: using Scout Rider to counter Halberdier is the worst idea you can have, because Halberdier counters Scout Rider. The Halberdier line exists specifically to stand in front of archers and turn a cavalry charge into a trade.
The practical rule: never send cavalry into a formation you have not scouted. If the enemy has spears visible, your horse is a liability until those spears are dead or out of position. That is what your own archers are for.
How to use the line
Attack the back, not the front. Cavalry that charges into the enemy’s frontline is wasted. Cavalry that reaches the archers behind it wins the exchange and removes the enemy’s damage for the rest of the fight.
Time the charge to their commitment. The Scout Rider’s value is that it picks its moment. Wait until the enemy has moved forward and their spears are engaged, then go around.
Do not expect it to hold ground. After the charge, cavalry is a weak unit in a fight. Pull it out and charge again, or accept the trade.
Watch the star cost. A Lancer is 4 stars — the same as a Spartan or a Samurai. On a small account that is your entire damage budget spent on a unit that only works for three seconds. The star limit guide covers the trade.
Where it sits
Lancer is S tier on the best units tier list and Scout Rider is one of the four best beginner units in creator guides. For what the line loses to, see the Halberdier line; for the full matchup chart, the unit counters guide; and for how the pieces fit together, the beginner guide.
