How do I get new units?
Command An Army fields six unit types across four star levels, and every unit sits on a fixed evolution path. This page maps the whole system: what each type does, how the evolution lines work, and how Ascension and Mastery make a single unit stronger — the three systems that decide whether your army holds a line or breaks one.
The system is deep for a Roblox game, and it is the reason this wiki exists: tier lists only make sense once you know that the “Spartan” everyone talks about is a special unit outside the regular evolution lines, and that the Lancer creators rank so highly is the third form of the Scout Rider line.
What are the six unit types?
Every unit belongs to one of six types, and matchups matter more than raw rarity:
| Type | Role | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Sword & Shield | Frontline brawlers, balanced | Mercenary line, Shieldman line |
| Heavy Shields | Tanks that absorb ranged fire | Shieldman → Sentinel → Imperial Wall |
| Spears | Anti-cavalry, reach | Spearman → Pikeman, Halberdier |
| Ranged | Damage from behind the line | Archer → Longbowman → Fire Archer, Crossbowman |
| Cavalry | Speed and rush damage | Scout Rider → Cavalryman → Lancer |
| Special Units | Standalone power picks, outside the regular lines | Spartan, Samurai, Berserker |
The practical reading: a formation of one type loses to its counter regardless of star level. Creators who cover the game consistently recommend fielding two or three types and switching the frontline depending on whether you are attacking or defending a point — defense favors shields, attack favors cavalry rushes.
Which evolution paths exist?
Evolution paths are fixed lines — each form is a straight upgrade of the one before, and the final forms are what the tier lists rank:
| Line | 1-star | 2-star | 3-star |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mercenary line | Mercenary | Squire | Knight |
| Shield line | Shieldman | Sentinel | Imperial Wall |
| Spear line | Spearman | Pikeman | (final form) |
| Archer line | Archer | Longbowman | Fire Archer |
| Cavalry line | Scout Rider | Cavalryman | Lancer |
Two notes that trip up new players:
- The Crossbowman is not part of the Archer line. It is a separate 3-star ranged unit — creators describe it as a budget Fire Archer: same role, noticeably weaker, much easier to obtain.
- The Mace is a separate 3-star unit, not an evolution of the Knight line. If you are chasing a specific 3-star, check which line it belongs to before spending Gems.
How do Ascension and Mastery make units stronger?
Two separate systems, often confused:
- Ascension combines two copies of the same unit into a stronger version. This is why duplicates are good news — keep a second copy of anything you actually field instead of selling it.
- Mastery levels a specific unit up to level 20, improving its performance through use. It costs playtime with that unit, not duplicates.
The combined effect is that a fully ascended, mastery-capped 2-star can outperform a fresh 3-star in its role — creators repeatedly make this point about the cheaper lines (Crossbowman, Pikeman) being viable when invested in, even if they lose the raw tier-list comparison.
Where do units come from?
Summons, paid for with Gems — the same currency class swaps use. Gems come from quests, milestone rewards, and codes; our codes page tracks every working code and the current set pays out 3,500+ Gems, which is roughly 60–70 summons.
The units most players chase — Spartan, Samurai, Lancer — are the top picks in creator tier lists. See the best units tier list for the current consensus ranking and why each one sits where it does, or start with the beginner guide if you are still learning the controls.
What changed in recent updates?
The game updates fast — the current build is the Guild & Ranked update (September 2026), which added the guild system and ranked mode on top of the unit roster. The unit list itself has been stable across the September updates, but new units ship with major patches; this page is dated and re-checked when the game updates.
